Morice Town Primary Academy is a 200-pupil school in the Devonport area of Plymouth.
While much of the Academy benefit from insulated metal roof panels, a troublesome area of flat roof was allowing water to enter the school’s main stairwell, causing damage and deterioration internally. Jarman Ward was instructed to carry out a comprehensive survey of the roof, working with trusted specialists to take core samples of the roof construction from waterproofing layer down through to the structural deck. This allowed a thorough assessment of the water damage caused by the prolonged ingress, enabling Jarman Ward to put together a feasibility report presenting repair options backed by cost-benefit analysis. With the assistance of a structural engineer and temporary works specialists, measures were put in place to prevent further damage while permanent repairs were carried out.
Following a thorough design and specification process, Jarman Ward assisted Reach South Academy Trust in procuring experienced roofing contractors to carry out the repair works. The Academy’s roof now benefits from a new waterproofing system comprising a proprietary elastomeric waterproofing system with the added peace of mind offered by a 20-year warranty.
